Hiring Information

We recognize that hiring exceptional attorneys is essential to our continued success. Consequently, we maintain a continuous recruiting program designed to attract talented and energetic candidates. We solicit resumes from students at over 50 top law schools around the country. We also receive many resumes via U.S. mail, fax or e-mail from students at other schools. Interviews are conducted either at individual law schools, at convenient locations in major metropolitan areas or at our office in the Nation's Capital. Our recruiting process is designed to ensure that we attract and hire highly qualified candidates that will enjoy the practice of law at MMA. We attract very bright and capable applicants for our associate and summer associate positions; most of the candidates we hire are in the top 15% of their class with law journal experience and many have had relevant job experience before entering law school.

Why Would I Want to be an Associate at MMA?

Every associate desires to work at a law firm that will allow him or her to develop his or her legal skills, work on interesting and rewarding projects and thrive in a pleasant working environment. Practicing law at MMA offers these advantages to attorneys interested in the firm's practice areas.

Cutting Edge Practice. Our practice is sophisticated and exciting. Our attorneys handle complex and innovative corporate transactions and issues typically associated with much larger firms. We provide a unique opportunity for a cutting edge practice in a smaller firm environment.

Size and Culture. Our manageable size and collegial atmosphere offer a more desirable working environment than at many firms. Our attorneys know and interact with all of their colleagues and co-workers. Frustrations with ever burgeoning bureaucracy are not a problem at MMA, as with some large firms or companies. Further, we recognize that our attorneys seek a life outside of the office. Our attorneys do what it takes to provide high quality legal services, and there are periods where deadlines or workload fluctuations require long days. However, we always seek to facilitate a balance between professional demands and family/recreational/relaxation time for our attorneys. Our associates often mention our quality of life as a primary attraction of practicing at MMA.

Education. We recognize the importance of nurturing the careers of new attorneys and emphasize associate training. In addition to formalized training on various topics conducted by our partners and off-site training conferences, our associates learn by doing. Our specialization means that a new associate is surrounded by a wealth of experienced attorneys available for consultation as he or she learns the practice of law. We employ a team approach to most of our projects and associates work closely with our partners. The depth of knowledge in the practice area of our attorneys, combined with our informal and collegial culture, provide an ideal learning environment for associates.

Responsibility. Our size and hiring philosophy require that new associates become integrated quickly in our practice. New associates will encounter client contact and significant work on corporate transactions and other substantive matters very early in their career at the firm. We are most definitely not a firm at which associates spend years in the firm library before becoming actively involved in the firm's practice.

Partnership Potential. Unlike many firms, we do not hire based on fixed partner/associate ratios or associate attrition formulas and are not bound by rigid precedents or procedures regarding the admission of new partners. Every new associate is hired with the belief that the person has the capability of becoming a partner. Associates are given regular evaluations at which job performance, strengths and weaknesses are discussed to assist the associate's career development.

Location. Our Washington, D.C. location offers unparalleled opportunities on both a professional and personal level. The Nation's Capital is the legal hub of the United States. Practicing law in the Nation's Capital with easy access to Congress, the Supreme Court and the executive agencies is an experience no other city can match. The Washington, D.C. metropolitan area is also consistently ranked as one of the most desirable places in the United States to live.

Compensation and Benefits for Associates

Our associate compensation, including salary and bonuses, is competitive with, and often better than, that which is offered at similarly sized Washington, D.C. firms. Associates also receive comprehensive insurance coverage, including medical, dental, life and short and long term disability. The firm pays the professional liability insurance fee for all of its attorneys, bar examination and bar review costs for entry level associates and annual bar dues. We also offer a 401(k) plan and provide paid parking.

How to Apply

We are always interested in receiving resumes from qualified attorneys or law students who are interested in employment with the firm. Resumes, along with a cover letter, may be mailed to the Attorney Recruiting Coordinator, Muldoon Murphy & Aguggia LLP, 5101 Wisconsin Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20016; faxed (202-966-9409) or e-mailed counsel@muldoonmurphy.com.
