The firm represented a major bottled water company in an important environmental law case. The Michigan Court of Appeals held that the plaintiffs had standing to sue the bottling company under the Michigan Environmental Protection Act; they alleged that the bottling company's groundwater pumping harmed three wetlands and a lake.  The bottled water company appealed to the Michigan Supreme Court, arguing that plaintiffs lacked standing to sue because they had no access to, and did not use, the wetlands and lake in question. In a 4-3 decision, the Supreme Court reversed, agreeing with the bottled water company that plaintiff lacked standing.  This decision was greeted with significant media and political controversy.
