About KS - Firm Overview - Technology
Kilpatrick Stockton—Technology That Works

Kilpatrick Stockton understands that efficient, reliable technology is essential to a successful practice, and to our clients. Our commitment to technology has allowed us to create a platform which fosters efficiency, saves money and reliably connects us to clients. With real-time billing that facilitates client accounting and sophisticated tools to manage client information, we have created the most fluid interchange for client accessibility.

The following examples demonstrate Kilpatrick Stockton's genuine interest in continually creating the best and most practical technology solutions for our firm and our clients:

  • We are among a limited number of firms in the nation that have a full-time staff of technology personnel dedicated to developing better technology solutions—reducing client costs and improving legal service. (Staffing: Legal Technology Solutions Team)
  • We have developed proprietary software programs that allow our clients to privately and securely track their cases from their own computer.
  • We have invested in personalized, commercial software to save our clients time and money.
  • Sophisticated software programs improve our research, document production, e-filing, client communication and Extranet capabilities.
  • With a continually updated and interactive Web site and electronic newsletters, we are able to communicate to our clients important changes to legislation and case law that directly affect their business.
  • All Kilpatrick Stockton attorneys carry handheld devices that allow them to access their email wirelessly from any location.

Following are some specific Kilpatrick Stockton technology assets:

Litigation and Document Management

  • Computer Routing and Filing System (CRAF) Created by Kilpatrick Stockton's Legal Technology Solutions (LTS) team, this system enhances communication between attorneys in complex litigations. By performing a simple search, attorneys can access documents that pertain to their specific role and review, comment on the documents, and forward them to the client for discussion—all via a Web browser. This system can organize thousands of documents in a secure, central location that allows clients to view documents online from their own computer. The system has been so successful that one of our clients requires all of its preferred firms to utilize it.
  • IConect and Concordance IConect and Concordance are the tools Kilpatrick Stockton uses to manage discovery documents in large-scale litigations. Allowing us to catalogue key information about documents produced in any given litigation for simplified search and retrieval, they give all members of the litigation team complete viewability. The programs also manage deposition transcripts and witness files and allow the client and co-counsel secure access to all information located in Concordance over the Internet, facilitating collaboration between attorneys and client.

Web and Wireless Innovations

  • Handheld Devices All Kilpatrick Stockton attorneys are provided with hand-held wireless devices to easily access important email from any location.
  • Extranet Our Extranet allows clients and attorneys to share documents, calendars and discussions in a secure Web environment. This system is easily accessed through a Web browser with a user ID and password. The application and all data are hosted in-house and is protected by Secure Socket Layer encryption, ensuring optimum security.
  • Intellectual Property Status Tracking System (IPSTS) Kilpatrick Stockton's IPSTS allows clients secure, reliable, around-the-clock access via the Internet to view the status of their patent and trademark intellectual property. IPSTS tracks all client IP information, from filing to prosecution, through issuance and maintenance. The IPSTS is so revolutionary that it was covered in Business 2.0. (To view a demonstration, go to www.kspatents.com.)
  • USPTO Electronic Filing System (EFS) Kilpatrick Stockton is among the first law firms in the country to file U.S. patent applications electronically using the USPTO's EFS. Several of the firm's offices worked extensively with the USPTO as beta test sites during the development of the software, and now every Kilpatrick Stockton office has EFS capability.
  • WIPO Electronic Filing System (EFS) Kilpatrick Stockton has also used the World Intellectual Property Organization's electronic PCT filing system since its inception. The firm routinely files PCT applications electronically.

Infrastructure

  • Wide Area Network (WAN) Through the use of our wide area network (WAN), we are able to maintain a firm-wide document library with uniform storage, quick retrieval and easy sharing of work product among attorneys in all of our offices. Our system also provides for efficient correspondence via email and the firm’s Intranet and allows the attorneys to securely access the network from home, at a client site, or in court.
  • Video / Web Conferencing Using a state of the art high definition video conferencing platform, in addition to web conferencing tools, the attorneys and staff can meet and collaborate both inside and outside the firm in a secure and efficient manner. Not only does the use of this technology save our clients money in reduced travel costs, but it also has a positive impact on the environment.
  • Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery While business impacting events are difficult to predict, Kilpatrick Stockton has developed a business continuity plan designed to permit our firm to continue and/or resume operations as quickly as possible, given the scope and severity of the significant business disruption at any of our offices worldwide.

This plan has been designed and continuously tested to allow quick recovery and resumption of business operations after a significant business disruption and respond by safeguarding our clients, attorney’s and staff’s welfare, property and intellectual assets.

Our business continuity provides our clients the assurance that their records and data are protected and secure whether we encounter a local, regional or continental failure.
